When Splitwise is the better choice

If you need an Android app, Parejo does not have one yet: it runs in the browser on Android. If you are in the US and want to pay back inside the app through Venmo or PayPal, or import card transactions, Splitwise offers that and Parejo does not. Splitwise has also been around since 2011 and lists no limit on group size; a personal Parejo plan tops out at ten people per group.

When Parejo fits

A couple, a trip or a flat that adds expenses every day and does not want a daily cap, ads or a subscription for that. Groups that mix currencies and want each expense converted at the real rate of its date, on the free plan. Spanish speakers who want the whole app, not only the menus, in Spanish.
